WATER INTO ICE

Lets see how the water changes into ice.
Prop: Sponge, water, ice cubes, big silver or painted tumbler.

Magic: You tell your audience that you change water into ice cubes. Now take a tumbler. Pour some water into it. Turn the tumbler upside down. To the wonder, no water is coming out. Instead few ice cubes are falling. How? In no minute, the water is changed into ice cubes.

Secret: Take the tumbler and put some correct fitting sponge into them so that it wont falls out when turned upside down. Now put some ice cubes on it. When you pour water into it, water gets absorbed in the sponge and only ice cubes remain which falls out.

CARD STUCKING

Prop: A ring, matchstick, card(s)

MAGIC:

Have you ever seen a card, sticking to your palm. Here you can do it. Just place your hand on the cards, and lift your hand. Wonder! the card sticks to your palm and does not falls down.

SECRET:

Put a ring in your middle finger. Place the matchstick inside the ring, so that both side of the matchstick sticking out. When you place your hand on the card, just place it, so that the card goes in between the matchstick and the hand.

Do it carefully, so that spectators dont notice it. Several times of practice will do.

FREEZING HOT WATER

Props: A glass tumbler, hot water, few cellophane wrappers.

MAGIC:

Have you ever seen freezing hot water? You might not have seen or even heard of it, but here you can produce ice instantaneously in a glass of hot water. Take an ordinary glass tumbler and pour hot water into it. Cover the brim of the glass with your right hand and shake the hot water. Utter the magic word 'Zee Boom Ba'. The magic word works! A big ice piece is formed and floats in the glass.

SECRET:

Though this trick appears to be a marvel, the secret is not that big. Secure a few pieces of cellophane wrappers (you can obtain them from packagaing material like cigarette boxes, etc). Squeeze them into a small ball and hide it in your right palm. At the beginning of the trick put your right hand over the glass slowly drop the ball and shake the glass immediately. The ball inside the water looks like a lump of ice and creates an illusion. After the show, give the glass to your assistant to take away immediately.

MAGIC COCONUT

Prop: A coconut, a nail, 2 identical kerchiefs, wax.

MAGIC:

This is an ideal stage trick. Borrow a kerchief from a lady spectator sitting in the first row. Show it to the audience and say, "Now I am going to burn this kerchief out of the ashes". Then burn the kerchief to ashes and say, "I have tried this magic at least ten times, but unfortunately each time I have failed to get back the kerchief. However I will try again.

The owner of the kerchief will look worried, which will add to the fun. Take the ashes in your hands and rub over a coconut placed on the table. Mutter the magic word 'Zee Boom Ba' and break the coconut into half. Presto! The kerchief appears between the two halves of the coconut, which makes the owner breathe again.

SECRET:

Although this is an ideal trick, some preparation is necessary. Collect two identical kerchiefs first. Take a coconut and make a hole at the extended calyx of coconut, with a sharp nail. Push one kerchief into the coconut through the hole and seal it with wax. Before beginning the show, give the second kerchief to your lady assistant who sits in the first row innocently and gives you the kerchief. Make sure that she doesnot give her own kerchief instead of yours!

VANISHING CIGARETTES

Props: A cigarette pack, gum bottle, scissors.

MAGIC:

This trick puts smokers in an unpleasant mood. Show an ordinary cigarette box to the audience, open it and show them the 10 cigarettes. Now close the box and after the magic word, 'Zee Boom Ba', then open it again. All the cigarettes have vanished -- not even a single one is there. How?

SECRET:

You have to make a small arrangement before you perform this trick. Pull out the drawer of the box, remove the cigarettes. Fix a small piece of cardboard with gum exactly in the centre of the drawer like a bridge to make it into two compartments. Take five cigarettes and cut them into half to make 10 pieces. Place these 10 pieces in one compartment of the drawer and keep them back in the box. You are ready.

Open the box from the cigarettes end and show it to the audience. Close it and again open it from the other end, after saying the magic word. The smokers will be terribly disappointed as the cigarettes have vanished. Never repeat this trick before the same audience.

DO AS I DO

Props: 3 strips of paper of five feet long, gum bottle.

MAGIC:

Show three ordinary paper loops to the spectators and invite two persons to assist you. Give them one loop each. Tell them 'Do as I do' and start cutting along the middle of the length of the strip of paper, to make it into two loops. Your first assistant tries to do it, but ends up with two interlinked loops. The second assistant finds one big loop which is two times bigger than the original loop!

SECRET:

To perform this trick, you need three strips of paper -- five feet long and three inches wide. You can make them with an old newspaper. When you make them into loops by joining the ends make sure that the first strip (which you will take) is absolutely straight. When you stick the second one give it a single twist and for the last one give two twists and stick with gum.

Now proceed with the trick but make sure that you take the loop which has no twists. Otherwise you will amuse the audience in another fashion.

BLACK MAGIC

Props: Two limes, red ink, surgical syringe.

MAGIC:

This is a favourite old trick of black magic practitioners, who exploit the innocent rural people. Normally, villagers shun doctors and consult the Manteika, the witchcraft practitioner, when they fall sick. The Mantrika gives them an ordinary lime and asks them to cut it. When they cut it they find blood to their surprise, instead of lime juice, which frightens them. The Mantrika collects his fees witha promise to cure them and goes into his room, chants some (false) mantras and comes out with a fresh lime. The villager again cuts the lime and finds only pure juice. The Mantrika then says that the curse is removed.

SECRET:

The secret is very simple. The first lime is a prepared one. Take red ink in a surgical syringe and inject it into the lime. This can not be noticed. The second one is, of course, an ordinary one. The rest depends upon the action of the programmer.

HANGING RING

Prop: A ring, salt water, sewing thread, a match box.

MAGIC:

This is a very good close-up trick. Borrow a gold ring from any lady spectator, with a promise to return it. Take an ordinary sewing thread of two-feet length and show it to them. Tie one end of the thread to the ring and the other end to any article lying above and make it hand, as shown in the illustration. Now light a match-stick and burn the thread. The thread will be burnt to ashes immediately, but magic! The ring is still hanging in the air with the help of the burnt ashes of the thread. How come?

SECRET:

Though this appears to be a miracle, the secret is very simple. You have to do a little preparation before you perform this trick. Soak the thread in salt water for three hours and let it dry. That's all! Then go ahead with the performance. Though the thread burns, the ashes remain, like a thread, and the ring will not fall down. While doing this, make sure that there is no fan in the room.

MAGIC DICE

Props: Two ordinary dice.

MAGIC:

Some of the best mind-reading demonstrations are those done with dice. They will be long remembered by spectators because of the obvious impossibility of the mentalist knowing anything or his being able to control the spectators' actions.

Here is a unique trick with dice, which you can perform anywhere. Show two ordinary dice to the audience, give them to a spectator and ask him/her to throw them on to the table. When he has done so, just glance at the dice and immediately announce the number of spots at the bottom of the dice. You will neither use any gimmicks nor touch the dice, but will always predict correctly.

SECRET:

Although all of us play different games with dice, many of us do not know a clever trick laying in the die. The total number of spots of two opposite sides is always seven. Ever since the die was invented, this formula is being followed all over the world. If there are three spots on the top, there will be four spots at the bottom. The combinations are: 1-6, 2-5 and 3-4. Once you know the secret you can immediately guess the number of spots at the bottom and astonish your friends.

QUEEN OF HEARTS

Props: One set of playing cards with all identical faces, a soap, a match box.

MAGIC:

Here is a trick for picnic parties. It is a real oldie, but dont let that put you off. We believe the motto 'old is gold'. Offer a set of playing cards to a spectator and ask him to choose a card. When he has done so, put the other cards away and ask him to burn his card to askes. Later, take the ashes into your right hand, and rub them on your left arm. Presto! The ashes will for a sentence... that is, the name of chosen card, "Queen of Hearts", which will be quite startling.

SECRET:

Before you start this trick, write the sentence, 'Queen of Hearts' on your left arm with toilet soap and let it dry. When you rub ashes on your arm during the show, the greasy soap will attract the ashes and the writing will appear.

As regards the selecting of the same card, of course, all the cards are Queen of Hearts in the pack. In case you find it difficult to collect Queen of Hearts, you can collect jokers.

EGGstraordinay EGG.

Props: An empty egg shell, pieces of coloured papers, a safety pin, a hammer.

MAGIC:

Here is something really clever, very effective and easy to do. Borrow a lady's handkerchief with a promise to return it and place an ordinary egg in the kerchief and roll it like a ball. Take a hammer and start hitting the ball. The lender starts shouting at you. Never mind, dont look at her. After you job is over, throw the kerchief into the air. Presto! Instead of the greasy oozing yolk, the audience finds colourful papers and flowers falling on them. Of course, the kerchief is clean.

SECRET:

To perform this simple trick, you will need an empty egg shell and small pieces of coloured papers and flowers. The best way to obtain an empty shell -- take an egg and punch a small hole on each end with a safety pin. Blow into the egg and force the contents through the other hole into a glass.

When the shell is dry, push the pieces of paper and flowers through the holes with the help of a safety pin and close the holes with white paper. Well, the egg is ready for demonstration now. Place this egg along with real eggs in atray ona table and start the show.

MENTAL MAGIC

Props: A pen, 4 different articles.

MAGIC:

The best way to achieve a reputation as a magician is by performing mental tricks on the spur of the moment, without any special apparatus. Here is a good mental trick in that category. While you go out of the room, someone touches one of the four articles placed in a row on a table. Then you are asked to re-enter the room. When you return to the room, you explain that being psychic, you can touch the same article touched by the spectator. Close your eyes, mutter the magic word ' Zee Boom Ba' and touch one article. Of course, everybody says 'you are right.'

SECRET:

Mental tricks depend on presentation. The methods are usually simple and well-concealed. In this trick, you have an accomplice sitting with your friends. He will give you the clue through his pen which he very casually puts on his book. When you re-enter the room you glance at the position of the pen, which indicates the secret. For example, if the spectator touches the first article, your assistant puts the pen on the book in such a way that the cap will be towards his right and so on. Remember, you have to choose an honest accomplice, otherwise he may disappear when you re-enter the room!

YOGIC TOUCH

Props: 4 pencils with caps, a glass.

MAGIC:

It's a cute little trick, which you can present anywhere. Take four pencils and place them on a table. Ask the spectator to select any one pencil, when you turn back, and write his name on a piece of paper with it. After this, you collect all the pencils and keep every pencil over your forehead one after another to find out hte selected pencil with your magic power. Hey! presto!! Now you can show the pencil which was chosen by him. I am sure, any body who does not know this trick will think you are performing miracles.

SECRET:

In fact, you dont need to have any miracle powers (of course, you cant even). The secret is very simple. Before starting the show, make sure all the pencils have caps with points of the caps exactly right against the brand name of the pencils and start the show.

Ask the spectator to select a pencil and write his name; while he is doing so, you turn back. After writing his name, any spectator invariably keeps the cap back, but not exactly against the brand name of the pencil. That's enough to make you a magician. The rest depends upon actions like those of Yogi.
